Interventional Cardiology
What is interventional cardiology?
By interventional cardiology, we mean the bloody access to the patient by performing catheterization on one of the large vessels leading to the heart. It is intended either to diagnose or treat heart disease. Interventional cardiology is a subspecialty of cardiology.
More specifically, interventional cardiology includes:
Invasive procedures for myocardial ischemia recognition:
Coronary angiography
Percutaneous coronary intervention (coronary angioplasty)
Electrophysiology studies mainly to investigate cardiac arrhythmias
Valvuloplasty, mainly on the aortic and mitral valves
Its most frequent use is to investigate and treat ischemic disease, which is the most common incident in the world.
